Resistance 3's wave-based "Brutality" DLC out today

Although a bit late to this particular party, but nonetheless, Resistance 3 will be getting its own version of the ever-popular wave-based survival mode.

The "Brutality" downloadable add-on is available on the PlayStation Store today for $3.99, and has you facing off against endless waves of Grims. You'll be able to utilize both firearms and the powerful sledgehammer from the campaign.

There's only one map, "Wales," but it's in a darker form than that of the single-player level. Even stil, those with a thirst for more wave-based gameplay can now enjoy it with the inventive weapons Insomniac Games delivers.

Resistance 3 patch adds two new maps, tweaks

Resistance 3 Patch 1.05 is available for download today and among its gameplay tweaks and enhancements, it adds two new maps to the fray--the 16-player map "Creek," and the four-player map "The Granary."

In terms of those gameplay tweaks, Patch 1.05 adds improved team balancing, network lag fixes, and improved PlayStation Move performance. Oh, and those pesky Leaper Corpses will spawn fewer leapers. Hooray!

Check out Patch 1.05 in its entirety here.

Resistance 3 demo now available

The fight for humanity against the Chimeran onslaught has been going on for a little while now, if you haven't already heard. Its final leg released last month in the form of Resistance 3, and if you weren't sure if you should pick up Insomniac Games' latest shooter, you can now play the newly released demo which is available on the PlayStation Store.

Additionally, this isn't the Mississippi River level that we've seen earlier this year. Insomniac confirmed on Twitter that the level is "Haven Tower Defense," a pretty hectic level if I recall correctly.

First Resistance 3 add-on released, free maps to follow

The first Resistance 3 multiplayer add-on, "Survival," is now available to download on the PlayStation Store for $3.99. It brings the new "Invasion" game variant to its online component, where both teams scramble to acquire multiple control points for the most amount of time, as well as adds a handful of multiplayer skins: Herbert, Glenda, Jean, and Charlie. A static Survivor concept art XBM theme is also included.

Patch 1.05 is also being worked on at the moment, which will not only address numerous issues to Resistance 3's multiplayer but will add two new (and free) multiplayer maps to the rotation -- Creek, and the Granary. Be on the lookout for this one in the near future.

Resistance 3 patch addresses a lot

Resistance 3 patch 1.02 is now available for download, addressing a lot of outstanding issues to the game's multiplayer. Insomniac Games does apologize for having two major patches right after Resistance 3's launch, but remember, the public beta had a ton of issues, so we can't be too hard on them.

Lag, framerate, and server issues will be further addressed in a future update, so be on the lookout for that soon.

  • Players should no longer get into “dead” games that don’t operate correctly
  • Improvement in framerate/lag
  • Matchmaking fixes
  • Fewer players floating / clipping through environment
  • Fix for freezing/crashing issues if you join a game as it is ending
  • Can no longer leave party while in a co-op game (was causing a crash)
  • Party fixes dealing with multiple invites, co-op
  • Some SFX in St. Louis have been cleaned up
  • Broadway map now loads games correctly
  • Fixed issues when late-joining a campaign co-op game
  • Multiple fixed issues on Chapter 13 in co-op
  • Female voice over will now play for female skins in MP
  • Player using Hazmat ability will no longer appear to catch fire or freeze
  • Other various lobby, menu, co-op and multiplayer fixes

Resistance 3 getting first DLC next month

Resistance 3, just released today, is already slated for downloadable content on October 4. Priced at $3.99, the "Survival" pack includes a brand new Invasion mode for multiplayer, challenging both sides to "capture and hold multiple control points for as long as possible."

Also included are a "Survival" multiplayer skin and XMB static theme.

Resistance 3's double-sided box art is badass

As if Resistance 3's box art wasn't sleek and eye-catching already, Insomniac posted on their Twitter that the original cover is also reversible, with the other side containing another awesome graphic, this time without any of the extraneous logos and banners. Thanks!

Resistance 3 is set to launch in North America next Tuesday, and the beta will be available to all starting today. How pumped are you guys for the next installment in the Chimeran saga?

Resistance 3's beta cap raised to 30, and some new equipment added

Insomniac Games' beta for Resistance 3 has been going through a rough time, with constant updates dropping and nuisances such as server lag severely plaguing the game's playability. There is some good news, though, with the reveal of the beta's leveling cap being raised to 30--originally capped at 20--along with the addition of a new weapon and two new abilities. The level cap was "immediate," so you should notice it the next time you log-in.

The tweet didn't specify what equipment was added, so we'll just have to play and see.

Walmart also offering Resistance 3 with PlayStation 3D Display, Motorstorm Apocalypse bundle

Following in the footsteps of Amazon and GameStop, Walmart is offering Resistance 3 as a pre-order bonus for Sony's new PlayStation 3D Display--which already comes bundled with a copy of Motorstorm: Apocalypse. You may remember the display was originally revealed to have Resistance 3 packed-in, but then the ol' switcheroo came not too long ago.

Walmart also has the PlayStation 3D Display priced at $449.96, a savings of $50.03 for those who like to save a little cash.

Resistance series could be headed by another developer, says Insomniac

Speaking to the folks at GamingUnion, Insomniac Games' Creative Director Marcus Smith commented on the future of the Resistance franchise, stating the team isn't "currently slated to do Resistance 4," and that the series could  be "going to another developer."

This isn't out of the ordinary for the long-time PlayStation developer, as they've parted ways with the Spyro series after its third installment, and with the team already working on their recently announced multi-platform shooter Overstrike, the situation is understandable.

Smith also referenced Resistance's Vita title headed by Nihilistic, and feels Sony wouldn't hand the franchise over to somebody who is going to "screw it up."

Amazon: Buy a qualifying PS3, get Resistance 2 for free

For a limited time, purchasing a qualifying PlayStation 3 console on Amazon will also nab you a free copy of Resistance 2. All you have to do is pick any one system from this page, check off Resistance 2, and, bingo! You have yourself a brand new console with a free game, just like the good ol' days where that was the norm. One of the eligible consoles is even the 320GB inFAMOUS 2 bundle, effectively scoring you two awesome games at once.

Need a headset at the right price? Turtle Beach's X11 can do the trick

Communication is key with online shooters, and with the amount of shooters coming out this fall--Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, and Resistance 3 just to name a few--you'll definitely need a mic. If you're in the market for a headset and can't afford to spend much cash, the Turtle Beach Ear Force X11 headset for the Xbox 360 is right up your alley. This USB powered headset also works for the PC and Mac, and connects through audio in/out cables.

Whether you prefer to connect the X11 to your television, Xbox 360 controller, or even surround sound set up, that functionality is available, as you'll get splitters and a controller connector inside the box.

Target is selling the Turtle Beach Ear Force X11 headphones for $47.99 this week, a savings of $12. If you prefer electronics retailer Best Buy, you can pick up the X11s there as well for $49.99.

As always, Amazon beats both outlets, selling the X11 for $45.99.

Turtle Beach is a well-known brand, and with their other products costing upwards of $100, you really can't go wrong with the Ear Force X11. Heck, I didn't.

[Similarly, the PlayStation 3 has the Ear Force P11 headset for $59.95 on Turtle Beach's website, and although I can't speak for this model, its description is similar to that of the X11.]

Resistance 3 beta patch 2.01 is out, addresses Matchmaking

We've been reporting on the status of the Resistance 3 beta over the past few days now, trying to keep everybody up to speed on the game's matchmaking issues. Well, as revealed yesterday, Patch 2.01 is currently out and the official announcement on the Resistance 3 main menu reads, "we [Insomniac Games] have re-enabled and made some changes to Matchmaking in hopes of improving your experience finding and joining games."

The patch also fixes a few bugs and crashes, and while players are still likely to experience other bugs and crashes, Insomniac assures us these issues are all being worked on.

Resistance 3 matchmaking update out tomorrow, hopefully

As we've recently posted, matchmaking in the Resistance 3 beta has gone down the crapper, with private sessions being the only way to play Insomniac Games' latest. Hopefully, that all changes tomorrow, as the studio has sent Update 2.01 to Sony for final testing, which is said to address the matchmaking issues along with a few crashes.

The plan is to have the update available by tomorrow night UK time, which would allow EU PlayStation Plus subscribers the ability to join matchmaking on their first day of access.

In addition to this, there is also a "larger Day 1 Patch" being worked on for the final game. This will hopefully fix any and all other problematic entities, such as annoying freezes and crashes, hosting issues, lag, and "The Invisible Man Glitch," an issue where Insomniac Games is even offering a bounty to help eradicate it. If you can perform the glitch consistently and help the studio out, you'll receive an autographed copy of Resistance 3 and "other swag."

You can read more on the Resistance 3 beta, including the latest on its stat progression, on Insomniac's official website. Here's a hint--stats go down tomorrow.

Amazon bundling Resistance 3 with PlayStation 3D Display...again

That was fast.

After removing Resistance 3 from its PlayStation 3D Display bundle and switching it with Motorstorm: Apocalypse, Amazon is now undoing its removal and will indeed include Resistance 3 along with the display itself and the free Motorstorm copy. It was only a matter of time before retailers saw what GameStop was doing.

So, that's $499.99 for a 22" 3D display, two free games, 3D glasses, and an HDMI cable. Those in the market for one of these bad boys should have no problem hopping on this deal.

Resistance 3 beta patch ETA is "this week"

Whether you are an industry insider, won a code in a contest, or bought SOCOM 4 back in April, nobody is able to access matchmaking in the Resistance 3 beta. Attempts lead to a message saying "undefined," and as of now creating private matches is the only way to play online. Insomniac Games is aware of the issue and is currently working on an update, tweeting that an estimated time of arrival for a patch is "this week," hopefully sooner than later depending on "various factors."

Insomniac also tweeted that nothing will occur today, as they "can't get anything through format QA, staged or deployed through Sony on the weekend." Although this situations sucks, let's remember this is a beta and these instances are to be expected.

Amazon no longer bundling Resistance 3 with PlayStation 3DTVs...but GameStop is

I must admit, although I already own a pretty good HDTV, I was a bit intrigued with the PlayStation 3DTV Sony announced at this year's E3--and I'm not even that big o' fan of the whole 3D gimmick! What practically sealed the deal, on my behalf, anyway, was the fact that Resistance 3 was bundled into the television's package. Well, after only a couple of months there have been some changes...

Confirmed via Twitter by Insomniac Games, Motorstorm: Apocalypse has replaced the alien-filled shooter as the 3DTV's bundled title, which also supports the television's ability to have simultaneous full-screen-split-screen viewing. As of now, there was no reason given as to why the ol' switcheroo was done. Insomniac did, however, apologize for "any inconvenience."

If you still want to get Resistance 3 with your brand new PlayStation 3DTV, though, GameStop is taking it to the man and bundling it along with Motorstorm: Apocalypse, giving consumers two games and the television for a $499.99 price-tag.

We'll see how long it takes for other outlets to follow suit.

Update: Resistance 3 is Gold, day-one patch in the works

Amidst its multiplayer beta, Resistance 3 has gone Gold, further proving that console betas aren't actually betas, but more or less a glorified, and sometimes closed demo of the final product. Nonetheless, the game is currently being sent to manufacturers in order to make its intended September 7, 8, and 9 release dates.

A day-one patch for the game's multiplayer is also in the works, as Insomniac Community Manager James Stevenson announced on the EU PlayStation Blog.

Update: The US PlayStation Blog has announced that US copies of Resistance 3 will contain playable demos of Killzone 3, Motorstorm Apocalypse, and inFAMOUS 2, alongside trailers and developer diaries for Uncharted 3, Starhawk, God of War: Origins, and SOCOM 4. ...SOCOM 4??? Music videos and movie trailers will also be included.

Here's when you can play the Resistance 3 beta

September is almost here, and that means we are that much closer to playing Insomniac's latest and [hopefully] greatest FPS Resistance 3. However, the beta is even closer, and starting August 4 those who purchased SOCOM 4 back in April will be able to take part in the game's online multiplayer beta with early access. Just redeem the codes given as you normally would; e.g. the convenient "Redeem Code" option in the XMB.

PlayStation Plus subbers, on the other hand, have to wait until August 23. All you guys have to do is navigate to the "PlayStation Plus" option in the PlayStation Store.

The Resistance 3 multiplayer beta contains two of the "major maps," two of the five game modes [Team Deathmatch, Chain Reaction], and has a leveling cap of 20. Insomniac notes there will be codes given away for everybody else, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Well, this new dev diary talks about just that--weapons! We also hear a little about how Insomniac's other series, Ratchet & Clank, plays a role when developing Resistance 3.
