Designer of Black bringing us Enemy Front, a CryEngine-powered WWII shooter

Black designer and former Codemasters employee, Stuart Black, is working with City Interactive as chief designer to bring the world Enemy Front, a CryEngine 3-powered World War II shooter.

Enemy Front puts you in the boots of a soldier dropped behind enemy lines who will tackle missions inspired by historical events, spanning several years and key battles, as well as a few true-to-life missions, including the 1944 "Wolf's Lair" assassination attempt on Hitler.

With CryEngine 3 at its core, as well as Stuart Black, Enemy Front will feature a hefty helping of environmental damage from the rain of bullets flying by and the multitude of grenades being lobbed. It will also focus more on the single-player component as opposed to multiplayer, presumably similar to Black's aforementioned 2005 shooter, Black, and the more recent Bodycount.

Also going for Enemy Front is its visual approach, which from the screen above represents a more stylized approach when compared to the countless WWII shooters in the past.

Enemy Front will deploy on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in 2012, so be on the lookout here as more information drops.

[On Sale this Week] Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, Bodycount, FEAR 3

This week, Best Buy is holding a sale on an orc-filled space marine battle, a shooter that lost a sense of originality in development, and a horror shooter--certainly appropriate being October and all, right?

  • Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) -- $39.99/$20 off
  • Bodycount (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) -- $39.99/$20 off
  • FEAR 3 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) -- $39.99/$20 off

Impressions: Bodycount has no shortage of explosions, red barrels, or chaos

After all the screenshots, developer diaries, and trailers we've seen for Bodycount throughout the years--or, year...whichever--the game is finally releasing at the end of the month, with a demo newly released on the Xbox 360. After treading and shredding through its short presentation of what's to come, I must admit that I am both interested yet, a tad perplexed.

As you may or may not know, the story in Bodycount is...there. There's you, there's bad guys, there's more bad guys, and then there's a head honcho bad guy, all of whom are aiming to kill you before you kill them. That's roughly the grand scope of the story, with the mission in the demo sending you to Africa to take out bad guys led by a bigger bad guy holding a mini-gun. It's more or less "Summer Blockbuster Film 101," but in some cases, like here, it works.

Sling some lead in the Bodycount demo now available

Codemasters' pseudo-sequel to the cult-classic shooter Black--Bodycount--is now available to demo on the Xbox 360. As of now, the demo is a Gold member exclusive, and will have players square off against enemies in Africa in the early missions of the campaign. Weapons on hand include a G36, Super 90 shotgun, proximity mines and grenades.

No word on a PlayStation 3 demo yet, other than Codemasters saying it "will follow" the 360's demo.

The studio also released another developer diary, and you can peep that after the break.

Bodycount lets you enjoy sliced bread with a large, heavy machine gun

Another Bodycount developer diary is here, and this time we learn a whole lot about the game's art direction, the factions, and the artificial intelligence. But, amidst the brief lesson we also get to see more carnage and "shredding" take place, which is worth watching the video to begin with. I have my hopes for Bodycount--I hope this game becomes this year's pleasant surprise. 2011's sleeper hit, if you will. Besides, this game is apparently better than sliced bread, because sliced bread doesn't have machine guns.

Bodycount dev-diary has guns, and lots of 'em

Simply put, Bodycount is a game about guns--How you fire them, how they react to the surrounding environment, and how they shred said environment. In all honesty, that sounds pretty awesome.

As with most other studios, the team at Codemasters put together a developer diary which runs through how they created certain parts of Bodycount, with the first installment focusing on the game's weaponry. Pretty explosions, and lots of them, are to be had in the video.

Bodycount Stacks the Bodies on August 30

Earlier in the week we heard that Codemasters' Bodycount was set to release sometime this August, but today we were given more concrete details on the matter. Bodycount will release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on August 30, just in time for the new school year!

If you want more on Bodycount, be sure to of course head back here, but you can also check out Bodycount on both Facebook and Twitter in between!

Bodycount Ships this August, Trailer looks like Michael Bay: The Game

Bodycount, the pseudo-sequel to the cult-classic FPS Black has returned with a new trailer straight from E3. Now, either this was a closed doors showing beforehand or Codemasters is a few weeks too late--nonetheless, the trailer contains more explosions than you'll see in any blockbuster film this summer, but I'm not saying that in a bad way by any means. Just as I said with Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, I admire games that have more fun with themselves as opposed to being strictly serious all the time; that's something the industry needs more of if you ask me.

In Bodycount, "everything is focused on the experience of squeezing the trigger, hearing bullets tear through the air and watching them obliterate the enemies and the environment," says Codemasters' Community Manager Benjamin Bateman.

Bodycount is scheduled to ship this August on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

If you want to see obliteration in action, watch the explosive gameplay trailer after the break.
