THQ Week on Steam discounts entire THQ catalog

THQ is having a massive blowout on Steam this week, with Metro 2033 costing a solid Lincoln. That's $5, for you history flunks.

The THQ Hit Collection is also half-off, selling for $50, which includes titles such as Red Faction: Guerrilla, Red Faction: Armageddon, Homefront, Saints Row 2, and Darksiders.

If you prefer to just purchase one of those titles, or any THQ game for that matter, the entire catalog of games is on sale at 33% off. More discounts are said to be announced as the week goes on.

Space Marine demo out next week, this week for Steam pre-orders

The upcoming orc-hunting third-person shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will have a demo available for the Xbox 360 and PC next week on August 22, and on the PlayStation 3 August 23, as announced by THQ today. Those who pre-ordered the game through Steam will be lucky enough to get early demo access starting this Thursday.

There are two different levels within the demo; one will feature the game's ranged-melee coupled combat, while the other will have Space Marine's main character, Captain Titus, "take to the skies to rain death from above."

If you love the demo, then consider picking Space Marine up when it releases on September 6.

Space Marine will have co-op, just don't expect it on launch day

When you pick up your copy of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine on September 6, don't expect to be able to play co-operatively with a bud just yet. Space Marine is confirmed to have co-op play, however, the mode will be added within thirty days--"give or take"--after its launch in order to add some extra "polish" to the "co-op aspect." More information on Space Marine's co-operative element, including what it actually contains, will be revealed soon, says THQ.

This all came from a forum post (cached version here) from THQ's community manager, which has since been taken down. The reason could be due to the post hinting that Space Marine will use the dreaded online pass system, with the post stating, "everyone who purchases Space Marine at retail (brand new) will get co-op for free. If you buy the game one year from now the co-op option will still be free as long as the game is sealed brand new from retail."

THQ has yet to respond on the post being pulled or if Space Marine will indeed utilize online passes.

The Rock becomes a Homefront Map Pack

At least Mr. Connery will be happy to hear that The Rock is no longer a tourist attraction, but rather the name for the newest map pack for THQ's FPS Homefront. Four maps will be included, ranging from a close-quarters Alcatraz stage, a Golden Gate Bridge map, Spillway, and "fan-favorite" Ground Control map, "Overpass".

This Xbox Live timed-exclusive currently has no release date, but will run you 400 MS Points.

THQ Closes Homefront Developer Kaos

Chaos has certainly struck the employees over at Kaos Studios as THQ announced today that the Homefront developing team has been shut down--no word on why this happened, however speculation is siding with the idea that the New York based team may relocate to Canada.

THQ also notes that they've closed Digital Warrington, the studio which recently finished their first project, Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team.

Homefront to have Multiplayer Demo, "Robust" DLC

If you were on the fence about purchasing THQ's latest FPS Homefront, perhaps testing out the game's online offering will make you think otherwise? Well, that's exactly what THQ is planning on with the release of a Homefront multiplayer demo in the coming months. THQ CEO Brian Farrell hopes the demo will "stimulate more new users and purchasers of the game."

Additionally, the team is planning on releasing "robust" DLC for Homefront, however, no further details have been confirmed.

Be on the lookout for both of these offerings within the next six months, as noted by THQ.

Saints Row: The Third - Image Explosion!

Saints Row: The Third is scheduled for release later this year; currently on November 15, according to Amazon.com.  THQ just released 33 images showing off Saints Row: The Third, and the direction they are taking with the game.

I find it interesting that Saints Row: The Third isn't scheduled for release for several more months, and THQ is already releasing so many images for the game, seemingly ignoring their Executive Vice President's advice about marketing games.

Ignoring Danny Bilson's advice from within the company though, just means we can enjoy some of the images they have released.  Take a look at some of the crazy scenarios taking place in the game, after the break!

THQ Likes "Last Light", Buys New Metro 2033 Domains

THQ is apparently looking into another Metro 2033 game at the moment, and we also may know the game's title, because the company recently made a few domain (URL address) purchases. Domains such as "Lastlightgame.com", "MetroLastlight.com", and "Metro2033LastLight.com" have all been picked up by THQ, but obviously only one will be used in the future.

"Lastlightgame.com" sounds the most mysterious of the bunch, and I quite like it. Stick with that, THQ!

It's been noticed that the domains have no reference to the alleged sequel's title being Metro 2034, which in all honesty is probably for the best...
