Surprise! House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut hit by the Ban-hammer

In a surprise to nobody, the Australian Classification Board has refused to rate SEGA's soon-to-release on-rails shooter House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut, effectively banning it from release. Presumably, the game was a bit too "extended," and some things should've stayed on the cutting room floor.

SEGA isn't going down without a fight, though, as SEGA Australia's Managing Director Darren Macbeth aims to appeal the ACB's decision without making a single change to Overkill.

"There are far worse titles currently available in the marketplace," argues Macbeth, "which involve more than shooting down mutants in humorous circumstances. We will do everything we can to prove House of the Dead: Overkill is worthy of an MA15+ rating in Australia."

Stripper kills Zombies in House of the Dead: Overkill's "Naked Terror" Level

The Wii's House of the Dead: Overkill is coming to the PlayStation 3 in due time as an "Extended Cut", and with it two exclusive levels. Sega of America's PR Manager David Bruno revealed the first exclusive level--"Naked Terror--on the PlayStation Blog today. "Naked Terror" sees you taking control of Varla, a NPC from the original Overkill, fighting alongside stripper friend Candy as you shoot for survival through infested strip clubs, Bayou City streets, and a bar. No, not "bars", just a single bar.

These zombies are not your generic zombies either; this time you'll be slaughtering (or getting slaughtered by) "new stripper and biker mutants."

There's also a bit of a story between the characters, most notably how Candy is in love with Varla's brother Jasper, who you may remember as the boss at the end of the Plantation level. Bruno adds that we'll have to wait and see how this drama will pan out when the game releases. I'll grab the popcorn.

That's all there is for now about the first exclusive level, and Bruno will unveil the second level "in due course." Make that soon, Bruno!
