Kojima split on the idea of a Metal Gear Solid HD remake

Speaking to the Official PlayStation Magazine, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima spoke about the possibility of creating a HD version of the original PlayStation game, though he is currently split with the idea.

"There are a lot of people wanting remakes of the original," Kojima said, "and as producer I want to answer those calls. But as creator I'm not very interested in going back. If we were to do it, it would have to be a total remake--the only thing that would be the same would be the story. If it happened at some point I would stay as a producer, but would have to hand off most of the actual creating."

Kojima also added that the original game is still his favorite in the series, though playing it now he realizes how hard it is to play. However, that may be for the best.

"If you bring the gameplay up to modern standards, then you lose a bit of the original game. It was a game made for a certain era--not just the story, but the controls and everything about it reflect that era in which the game was made."

Seems for now we'll just have to make do with the GameCube remake, The Twin Snakes, bullet-time and all.
