At first glance, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City appears to be a straight up third-person shooter with a co-operative focus, and lacks the chills and thrills that made Resident Evil so famous. However, producer Mike Jones claims the game hasn't "abandoned the survival-horror genre completely."
"We're still gonna try to scare you, we're still gonna try to surprise you. We've got some more atmospheric and moodier levels as well as more exciting action levels and boss battles as well."
After the franchise's shift toward more action-oriented gameplay and quicktime events, it's a nice surprise to see the team putting effort into returning the series to its survival-horror roots. Hopefully, we're not desensitized toward the "horror" aspect after the most recent installments.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is set loose on March 20, 2012.
