DICE discusses Battlefield 3 beta, Bad Company's future, and modding community

Battlefield 3 producer, Patrick Liu, sat down and talked about the game's beta and DICE's future direction with The Guardian. When Liu was asked about the fans' disappointment towards map choice and exclusion of vehicle gameplay for the beta, he gave a friendly reminder that it's still a beta test.

"We ran the alpha tests with a "Rush" map and we wanted to have some sort of reference so we could compare results - so we needed to have more-or-less the same map," Liu reasoned.

On the topic of map choice , Liu did reveal that a new playable "Conquest" map, "Caspian Border," will be available for PC beta players.

When asked about Bad Company's future, the producer replied, "Well, we haven't killed Bad Company!" He expands with DICE's plans to stray away from the annual title model other companies follow, and instead are planning on possible future digital download titles, like Battlefield 1943.

Earlier this year, Patrick Bach also mentioned that "Vietnam"-esque expansions are healthier for the series, and makes the game "feel new and fresh again."

Liu answered questions about supporting the modding community and said, "We do recognise the modding community, it's just that it's such a huge undertaking to make a toolset like that - it's like making another game. But we'll see." They see you modders and the popularity of your work.

The beta's been running for a week and change, and these are the first set of changes made for the final game.
